Follow the State of the Union with Sunlight Live
By Josh Hatch Jan 25 2011 1:10 p.m.When President Barack Obama makes his second State of the Union address tonight at 9 p.m. ET, tune into sunlightlive.com to watch the speech with real-time reporting and context. Using our award-winning Sunlight Live platform, we'll be live blogging the president's speech and the responses by Reps. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn.
In addition to Sunlight reporters, our live blog will feature reporters from CQ Roll Call, the National Journal, the Center for Public Integrity and the Huffington Post.
Alongside the live video stream and blog, Sunlight Live features what we like to call "data cards." These cards are designed to provide context to what the president will be discussing. This includes information on the state of the economy to lobbying disclosures and campaign contribution data. So, when Obama talks about unemployment, we'll be able to show how the unemployment rate has changed over time. Or when he raises the issue of energy independence, we'll be able to show which members of the House and Senate have gotten the most from the energy industry.
And since the State of the Union address is part of the national conversation, we'll be using a live Twitter feed to monitor what people are saying about the speech. You can contribute to the dialog by including "SOTU" in your Twitter messages.
We'll kick off the live blogging at 8:30 p.m. ET. Join us. And if you'd like to embed the Sunlight Live platform on your site, use one of these embed codes.
