Party crash fail: No Sunlight at Mitt's fundraiser
By Kathryn Lucero Sep 28, 2012 5:29 p.m.We at Sunlight Foundation are fond of writing about fundraisers and gatherings, especially the quirky or high-priced local ones that we come across on our Political Party Time website. But, once in a while, we get a chance to check out the parties in person. Or at least, experience the novelty of attending and meeting the folks who donate and coordinate these expensive affairs while we hang around outside closed doors.

No close call here: NFL's political donations tilt Republican
By Louis Serino Sep 26, 2012 7:50 p.m.The National Football League bigwigs who early this morning conceded defeat in an ongoing labor dispute -- after a week in which their internal politics have been on embarrassing display -- like to play politics themselves, and tend to favor the party with the most adversarial relationship with unions.

Obama's fundraising paves way for advertising dominance
By Bill Allison Sep 20, 2012 1:56 p.m.When it comes to saturating the airwaves and cable outlets with political advertisements, no entity has spent more in the 2012 presidential elections than the campaign of President Barack Obama. Through July, his campaign spent more than $111 million broadcasting its message--more than twice the $48 million spent by his GOP rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Both campaigns will disclose their itemized contributions and expenditures for August with the Federal Election Commission today.

Sex and taxes: What the Romney returns and the Edwards precedent say about political slush funds
By Bill Allison Sep 10, 2012 11:47 a.m.The cloak and dagger tale circulating on the Internet about a group of hackers who claim to have purloined old tax returns of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and say they will release them to whomever is first to pay their ransom suggests why a federal court case that absolved former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards of campaign finance crimes was wrongly decided.

McCain campaigns for Romney, transparency or not
By Breanna Edwards Jul 16, 2012 3:24 p.m.Political irony: That's probably the best definition for what happened Monday when when Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., probably the only GOP lawmaker to express interest in the Disclose Act, rallied Michigan on behalf of GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who has turned his back on requests to be more open with his campaign finance.

Mitt Romney makes an early appearance in lobbying filings
By Lindsay Young Jun 12, 2012 9:13 a.m.It's not surprising that a Republican stalwart like Bob Dole, the party's 1996 presidential candidate and, prior to that, the Senate Majority Leader, would have occasion to speak with current GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. But the context is: Dole's firm, Alston and Bird, disclosed that he's started to lobby Mitt Romney on behalf of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office of the United States (TECRO), the diplomatic mission of Taiwan to the United States.
